Autumn 1

Welcome back everyone! We hope you have had a very restful summer. We are very excited to be running our new mixed year group classes. The children have been enjoying settling in to their new classrooms and exploring their environments. 

Our first two weeks have been based on The Colour Monster Goes to School. We have been thinking about emotions, relationships and respecting each other. Look at some of the wonderful learning we have been doing. 

Week 3

We have started our first Talk for Writing unit of the year on The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We began the unit by exploring how to make bridges outside. 

This is our story map which helps us learn the story. Can your child use it to tell you the story with the actions we have learnt in class?

In Maths we have started learning about place value. Can your child tell you what the value of each digit in a 2 digit number is? They have been using dienes to make the numbers and thinking about how many tens and ones are in each number. 

We have started our Science topic of habitats. To begin this topic we went outside for a hunt for things that were alive, dead, and never alive. We decided to put ourselves in the hoop on the grass. We talked about how, once something had been picked or fallen off the trees, it was no longer growing and so we had to put it in the 'dead' hoop. Things that have never been alive are often made from man made materials like plastic. We found a building brick to show that it was never alive.
